Professor Wally Jay's Small Circle Jujitsu™

...is devoted to the propagation and preservation of the style of Jujitsu developed by world renowned Professor Wally Jay

In Memory of Peter Aldridge
It is with great sadness I must inform you that Peter Aldridge, a serving British soldier, died whilst on active duty on Friday 22nd January 2010. He was just 19 years of age.

Peter, son of Andy and Caroline Aldridge, was killed by an improvised explosive device whilst serving his country and was the 250th British soldier to die in Afghanistan.

As a former Small Circle Jujitsu student, Peter began his training with Sensei Colin Harvel and myself as a young teen here in England; he was a great kid and later a fine soldier.

Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

Prof. Leon Jay

Owen County’s Guardian Martial Arts Dojo Serves As Host Site For Karate Training Camp

Professor Leon Jay, Grandmaster of Small Circle Jujitsu doesn’t exactly look to be in his 50’s, and he certainly doesn’t move like he’s 50. This was evident Saturday afternoon on the dojo floor of Guardian Martial Arts on Little Flock Road in rural southeastern Owen County.

Professor Jay made a trip to Master Gary Cunningham’s personal dojo from London, England, but first made a pit stop in Long Beach, California, where he met up with several other martial arts masters. The reasoning for their visit to Guardian Martial Arts wasn’t just to catch up, but to train as part of the Professor Jay’s Small Circle Jujitsu 2009 Midwest Camp as nearly 100 martial artists were in attendance to learn from the very best.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this site is to:

  • Promote the authentic practice and further dissemination of Small Circle Jujitsu

  • Standardize the practice of Small Circle Jujitsuand its official syllabus

  • Promote the reputation of Professor Wally Jay's Small Circle Jujitsu and extend it to a greater audience by increasing contact with the founder Professor Jay, Leon Jay and it's qualified instructors

  • Create the opportunity to become a member and to serve the needs of that membership

Small Circle's Second Generation

Professor Wally Jay is pleased to announce his retirement and the passing on of the Grandmastership of his creation, Small Circle Jujitsu to his son and heir, Professor Leon Jay. Leon Jay has publicly stated that his father will continue to be the great creative martial artist he has always been, but needs the leisure time to fully recover his health.

Since his heart bypass operation in 1999, Professor Wally Jay has become concerned that Small Circle Jujitsu should not be beset by the kind of political problems experienced by the martial arts families of close friends and contemporaries lost to us in recent years, where no clear inheritor had been formally selected. He is fortunate to have a worthy successor in his son, Leon who has expressed his hope that his father will be available to advise him for many years to come.

With the Grandmastership, Professor Wally wishes it to be clear that all authority within the system worldwide passes to his successor. It is significant that with the headmastership of the system, the legal title to the name of Small Circle Jujitsu was also passed to Leon Jay. When the Professor dissolved Small Circle Jujitsu International last year, he explicitly stated that all personal ranks bestowed by him would be honored in perpetuity. However, all future ranks will be in the gift of the new Grandmaster, and existing rank holders can only bestow rank in Small Circle with the official approval of the second-generation head of system.

Professor Leon has created the Professor Jay's Small Circle Jujitsu organization, which will oversee all official Small Circle activities, from syllabus and ranking to the promotion and dissemination of the system. Professor Lee Eichelberger, US Technical Director, will be managing the development in the US. The aims will be to encourage the expansion of the direct student body of the style, its continued development, and ensure the continued positive image of the Small Circle family. In the near future the official web site will be restructured to show the current official status of all teaching rank students of the style.

Both Professors have asked that all schools affiliated with the system should display this statement publicly, complete and unedited, either in hard-copy on the notice boards, or in a place of prominence on their web sites, so that there should be no confusion.

The ranking system is outlined in a syllabus of techniques and principles of Small Circle Jujitsu™ with its own unique terminology and breakdown principles. Small Circle Jujitsu™ is a martial arts system which is constantly changing and evolving into a more efficient expression of application, it is not a fixed system. It is a modern system, growing and reaching new heights, as the next generation of Small Circle Jujitsu™ practitioners takes it to a higher level.

Small Circle Jujitsu™, eclectic in style and evolutionary by nature, is continually progressing towards a higher standard. It is understood that no one system has all the answers and it is our goal to strive for better ones. Professor Jay's teachings give us the ability and tools to discover, perfect and improvise. The open sharing of knowledge has been a trademark of the Professors and it is in this spirit of sharing that we can develop to our greatest potential on our chosen path. Although Small Circle Jujitsu™ Concepts are relatively modern ones, based on tradition styles, we choose to move forward honoring the past but not dwelling in it.
